Every 50dives stop is a little different because every state, shoreline, quarry, lake, spring, and coastline is different. But the vibe stays the same: we show up, we connect, we dive (or get you in the water for the first time), and we make it a memorable day for everyone who joins us.
If you’re wondering what it’s actually like to attend a stop—whether you’re a certified diver, brand new, or just along for the adventure—this page will walk you through what typically happens.
The vibe: come as you are
A 50dives stop isn’t a formal competition or a high-pressure “keep up or miss out” kind of event. It’s a community meet-up with salt (or fresh) water in the middle.
You’ll see a mix of:
- local divers who know the site like their backyard
- travelers and road-trippers
- brand-new faces who are curious about scuba
- dive buddies meeting for the first time and leaving as friends
If you’re the kind of person who loves diving, loves learning, or just loves being around people who do—this is for you.

How the day usually flows
Exact timing and details depend on the location, conditions, and local partners. But most stops follow a familiar rhythm.
We start with a quick hello and orientation. This is where we’ll:
- meet up and get everyone checked in (informally—think “let’s gather the crew”)
- talk through the plan for the day
- cover any site-specific notes and expectations so nobody feels unsure
- answer questions and help you find your footing if it’s your first time diving with us
Then we get into the main event: a group fun dive. If you’re certified and geared up, this is the heart of the stop—getting underwater together, enjoying the site, and sharing the experience.
Depending on the stop, you may also see:
- gear demos (hands-on opportunities to check out equipment)
- Discover Scuba Diving options for first-timers (where available and appropriate)
- time to hang out, talk shop, and swap stories after the dive
And yes—often there are refreshments or food. What’s available can vary by site and sponsor, but we love ending a dive with something cold, something tasty, and a bunch of new friends.
Certified divers: what to expect on the fun dive
If you’re already certified, plan for a straightforward, social dive day. You’ll have time to assemble gear, do your pre-dive checks, and connect with other divers.
We keep it focused on enjoyment and good diving habits:
- clear communication
- buddy awareness
- respect for the site and local rules
- a pace that feels fun, not frantic
Some divers come to log a new state. Some come to test gear. Some come because they’ve been waiting for an excuse to finally dive their local spot with a group. However you’re showing up, you’ll fit right in.
New to scuba? You can still be part of the stop
Not certified yet? You’re not automatically “out.” Many stops can include a Discover Scuba Diving experience depending on the location and local availability.
If Discover Scuba Diving is part of a stop, you can expect a supportive, beginner-friendly environment where the goal is simple: help you feel comfortable and excited about breathing underwater.
Even if you’re staying topside, there’s plenty to enjoy—meeting divers, learning about gear, hearing stories, and getting a real feel for the dive community before you commit to certification.
Gear demos and sponsor support: the fun extras
Some stops include gear demos—an easy way to see what’s out there and learn from people who use it. If a sponsor or local partner is part of the day, they may add extras that make the stop feel like a mini celebration.
That might look like:
- equipment you can check out up close
- tips and guidance from experienced divers
- snacks, drinks, or food depending on what’s available and appropriate for the site
The goal is never to sell you a bunch of stuff. It’s to add value, create a great experience, and make each stop feel like more than “just another dive.”
What you should bring (and how to show up prepared)
Every site has its own requirements, but a little preparation makes everything smoother.
Bring what you normally would for a dive day:
- your standard scuba kit (if certified and diving)
- anything you rely on for comfort—water, a layer for after the dive, sunscreen, etc.
- your curiosity and a willingness to introduce yourself
If you’re unsure what’s appropriate for a specific stop—cold vs. warm, shore vs. boat, fresh vs. salt—check the stop details on our Events and Stops page or reach out. We’d rather answer your question early than have you guessing.
After the dive: hang time, stories, and connection
Some of the best moments happen after everyone is back on land. This is where divers compare notes, share photos, talk about the site, and connect with local shops and community leaders.
If you’re coming solo, this part matters: you won’t stay solo for long.
We’re building something bigger than a checklist of states. We’re building a trail of connections—one stop at a time.
